Act! Speak! Build! Week - March 8 - 13, 2010

This is poverty housing!

Do you know that families all over Los Angeles live without heat or power, lack hot water, safe floors and ceilings, have cracks or holes in the wall and have extreme overcrowding, all because they cannot afford a safer place to live?

This is the housing crisis!

  • More than half of all people who rent in Los Angeles County live in unaffordable housing, paying more than 30% of their income.

  • One third of LA renters live in overcrowded conditions: overcrowding is more than one person per room in a house.

  • On any given night in Los Angeles County as estimated 43,000 people are likely to be homeless: Nearly 10% are reported to be children under 18.

  • In 2010, the demand for housing in LA County is exceeding new housing production by 28,000 units per year.

Are you or is someone you know being affected by the housing crisis?

Now that you know, what will you do?

Participate in Act! Speak! Build! Week and advocate for affordable housing.

If everyone does ONE thing to help educate their friends and families about the need and advocate for change, WE can put an end to poverty housing!
