LCDQ Retailers Encourage Donations to Local Habitat ReStores®

Los Angeles, CA – May 03, 2010: For the second year in a row, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (HFH GLA) has been selected as the beneficiary for the Legends of La Cienega event. This year’s event, “Celebrate Hollywood” recognizes design in film & television with top interior designers and set decorators creating inspiring window vignettes honoring motion pictures and television. Festivities will also include a VIP reception, silent auction benefiting HFH, panel discussions, book signings, gourmet food trucks and more. La Cienega Design Quarter (LCDQ) shop owners will donate a portion of proceeds during the event and encourage the donation of reusable home items to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles’s ReStore. Legends of La Cienega: “Celebrate Hollywood” runs May 7 - 8, 2010 with free valet parking and on street shuttles to all events.

“The LCDQ community has been so supportive of our efforts and we are thrilled to be involved with this great event again this year,” says Erin Rank, President and CEO, HFH GLA. “This type of exposure is great because it allows us to let the design community know about our ReStore and other green building initiatives. It’s a win win for all of us to work together.”

Since its inception in August of 2004, the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Gardena has generated over 4 million dollars in gross sales, diverting over 3 million pounds away from area landfills, the equivalent weight of 85 million aluminum soft drink cans. The ReStore regularly receives and sells items from the major motion picture and television studios in the area, plus “overruns” and “discontinued” materials from throughout the United States. Additionally, the ReStore works with deconstruction contractors to divert salvageable construction materials from area landfills to be resold and reused. Free pick up is offered throughout Greater Los Angeles and donations are tax deductable. A second ReStore is scheduled to open in the city of Norwalk during summer of 2010.
“The ReStores provide such a valuable resource for everyone in the community,” says Gerry Bross of Hollywood Sierra Kitchens. “I recommend the ReStore to my clients because it allows them to give their “old” kitchen a second life within the community while helping the environment. I first became involved with HFH GLA during last year’s LCDQ event and I was so inspired that now I am proud to serve on their Board of Directors.”

Following the success of the first Legends event in 2009, LCDQ selected Hollywood as the theme of this year’s event. Legends of La Cienega: “Celebrate Hollywood” is a 2-day event honoring design on the silver screen, television, and the creative talents that have made Hollywood the capital of the entertainment industry. A collaboration between ELLE DÉCOR and LCDQ, Legends of La Cienega: “Celebrate Hollywood” will feature a lineup of distinctive panels with leaders in design and entertainment, as well as creative window displays and vignettes decorated by today’s top designers and set decorators, honoring design in iconic films.
